Self-Identity/Representation
Self-identity is the acknowledgment of one’s unique individuality. However, sometimes our uniqueness, whether it is race, sexuality, religion, gender, or story isn’t represented in society and is used against us.

How can I depict urban loneliness using abstraction and surrealist perspectives? Each piece features a brick wall, showing how one individual is so separated from the city around them. By the end of my investigation, I focused more on faces and figures to create more personal compositions. |

 Beanie & BubblegumBy Sonya Fares
Made with chalk pastels, my piece depicts a girl blowing bubblegum and wearing a beanie hat. It is lighthearted and full of energy but was inspired by people making fun of me for wearing a beanie and always chewing gum. The piece celebrates the fact that people should do whatever makes them happy no matter how quirky, or how unconventional others may find it. |
