The Traveling Heart Project  X  The Art Initiative

This year the Art Initiative will be partnering with the 2020 Georgetown Day School Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent (virtually). The Art Initiative will be facilitating a workshop on the Traveling Heart.

What is The Traveling Heart Project?

The Traveling Heart Project is a program that is part of the Georgetown Day School Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent. This project was created as a way to show support for survivors of sexual assault. By using art to stand with survivors in solidarity, the program aims to dedicate itself to combating the issue of sexual assault with humanity and dignity, while leading others and continuing this work with our hearts.

During the Traveling Heart workshop, participants will be using materials provided by the Summit, to create hearts to show support and solidarity for sexual assault survivors. During the workshop the Art Initiative will be facilitating conversation about the importance of art and activism and the intersection it has with sexual assault and consent in today's day and age.

In past years since the Summit has been in person, communities could sign up to host the Traveling Heart gallery where all the Traveling Hearts created were displayed. However, due to COVID-19 and the Summit being virtual, all Traveling Hearts will be displayed on the Art Initiative website.

What is the GDS Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent?

The Georgetown Day School Policy Institute track on Sexual Assault And Consent is dedicated to making an impact in the greater Washington D.C. area and beyond. The Summit's goal is to utilize the Summit to educate and engage the community as well as well as inspire others to do the same. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the complexity of sexual assault and consent issues guided by experts in this field and supported by their peers.

The Georgetown Day School Policy Institute on Sexual Assault and Consent will bring secondary school students, faculty, and administrators together to examine current laws, policies, and programs established to support survivors, advocate for rights, and prevent sexual assault. Participants will then apply this knowledge to their own communities where they can design initiatives and prompt culture change.
